Desch Audio Services: Sound System Design
The
Alte Oper Frankfurt was first opened in 1880. After it was almost completely destroyed in 1944, it was rebuilt in the 70's and finally reopened in 1981 with 2450 seats. Since then it is mostly used for classical concerts and opera, but also as a multi-purpose hall for congress and industrial events.
The old sound system was not sufficient for the different applications and was simply out-of-date. Desch Audio was appointed to install a new system; an
L-Acoustics
system was chosen both for its known superior quality but also for its wide acceptance among sound engineers.
The system was designed and optimized by Rahe-Kraft utilizing L-Acoustics' simulation tool SoundVision.
The system consists of:
24 x L-Acoustics dV-DOSC
8 x L-Acoustics dV-Sub
6 x L-Acoustics SB 218
12 x L-Acoustics MTD 108
8 x L-Acoustics MTD 112The whole configuration is driven via a RockNet 300 system, two Dolby Lake Controllers and LA-24a/LA-48a amplifiers.
With this configuration, the system can deliver enough Sound Pressure even for modern live-music.
Just with the two main arrays, the complete hall can now be covered with high quality up to the last seat.
